1. Introduction
Jam Sauh ("we", "us", "our") operates a watch repair workshop at 61 Jalan Hang Jebat, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia. This policy explains what personal data we collect from people who contact us via our website, what we do with it, and what rights you have over it.
We collect only the data needed to respond to enquiries and manage watch repair jobs. We do not sell personal data and do not share it with parties unrelated to the work.
2. What data we collect and how
We collect the following categories of personal data:
- Contact data: name, email address, and phone number, provided voluntarily when you submit our contact form.
- Job-related data: descriptions of watches brought in for service, including make, model, and condition notes. This is provided by you and recorded in our job management system.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, and pages visited, collected automatically by standard server logs and analytics tools when you use this website.
- Cookie data: preferences stored in your browser relating to your consent choice on this site. See our Cookie Policy for details.
Data is collected via the contact form on this website, by telephone, and in person at the workshop.
3. Legal basis for processing
We process your data on the following grounds under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA):
- Contract: to carry out the service you have requested or to provide a quote.
- Legitimate interest: to manage workshop operations, communicate about ongoing jobs, and improve our website.
- Consent: for analytics cookies and marketing communications, which you can withdraw at any time.
4. How we use your data
- To respond to your enquiry and communicate about your repair job.
- To prepare and send quotations, written updates, and service records.
- To maintain our job management records for the duration of your job and for three years following its completion.
- To improve our website through anonymised analytics data.
- To fulfil legal obligations, including financial record-keeping under Malaysian law.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling. We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.
5. Data sharing
We share your data only in the following circumstances:
- Parts suppliers: where sourcing a component requires communicating a watch's make and reference to a supplier, we share only the technical details required and no personal contact information.
- Analytics providers: anonymised usage data may be processed by Google Analytics. This data cannot be used to identify individual visitors.
- Legal requirements: we will disclose data where required by Malaysian law or a court order.
We do not transfer personal data outside Malaysia except where a parts supplier is located abroad, in which case only technical watch specifications — not personal data — are shared.
6. Data retention
- Contact form submissions: retained for twelve months from the date of enquiry if no job results.
- Job records: retained for three years from the date of collection of the repaired piece.
- Financial records: retained for seven years as required under Malaysian financial regulations.
- Analytics data: retained for 26 months, after which it is aggregated and anonymised.
7. Security measures
- Our website is served over HTTPS with a current TLS certificate.
- Job management data is stored in a password-protected system accessible only to workshop staff.
- Physical job records are kept in locked storage on premises overnight.
- In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as soon as practicable and take immediate steps to limit any further exposure.
8. Cookies
This website uses essential cookies required for basic function, and optional analytics cookies. Your preference is stored in localStorage. You can update your cookie settings at any time via our Cookie Policy page.
9. Your rights under the PDPA 2010
Under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010, you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Withdraw consent to processing where consent is the legal basis.
- Request deletion of data we are not legally required to retain.
