What we bring to the work
The difference is in how we communicate, not just how we work
Skill matters. So does being told what is happening, when the timeline shifts, and what the job will cost before it starts.
Back to HomeWhat you get when you bring a watch to Jam Sauh
Itemised quotes before anything starts
Labour and sourced parts are listed separately so you know what each element costs and what you are agreeing to.
Written updates whenever anything changes
If the timeline shifts or a sourced part costs more than estimated, you receive a written update before we proceed. No surprises at collection.
Parts sourced with care and documentation
For discontinued references, we locate components, describe any visual differences honestly, and document what was fitted and where it came from.
Honesty about what we will not do
Tourbillon movements, dial restoration, and smartwatch repairs are referred elsewhere rather than attempted. We do not take work we cannot complete to a standard we are satisfied with.
Regulation checked and recorded
After every overhaul, the movement is tested on a timing machine. Results go into the service record returned with the piece.
Malaysian climate considered
Seal ageing and storage conditions in Malaysia's humidity are factored into every service recommendation and collection advice visit.
The five things that shape every job
Expertise in vintage mechanical movements
Mechanical watches from the 1960s to 1990s require calibre-specific knowledge. A Seiko 6105 does not come apart the same way as a Longines 30L. We maintain reference materials, carry appropriate tools, and have worked across a wide range of Swiss and Japanese movements over many years. That breadth matters when a piece is unusual or when parts require sourcing from several different suppliers.
Proper equipment, not improvised methods
Movement cleaning is done in an ultrasonic cleaner with appropriate solutions, not a makeshift setup. Regulation is checked on a timing machine. Pressure testing uses dedicated equipment. These are not unusual tools, but they are used consistently rather than selectively. Every watch that comes through the workshop goes through the same process.
Communication that does not require chasing
When a piece comes in, you receive an acknowledgement. When the inspection is complete, you receive a quote. When the work is done, you are contacted for collection. If anything changes in between — timeline, scope, cost — you receive a written update before we act. The goal is that you should never need to call us to find out what is happening.
Pricing that reflects the actual job
A flat rate for an overhaul assumes the movement is in a predictable condition. Ours are not — they have decades of wear, varying storage histories, and sometimes missing or damaged components. We quote after inspection rather than before, and we separate labour from parts so you can see exactly where the cost sits. That takes a little longer up front but removes uncertainty later.
A service record you can keep and use
Every watch leaves with a written record: work performed, parts replaced, regulation result, and a suggested next service interval. For pieces that may be sold or passed on, this record adds context and credibility. For pieces that are kept, it makes the next service faster because we know the starting point.

Three things that are specific to this workshop
The pause option for parts-dependent work
If a part proves difficult to source or arrives at a higher cost than expected, the job can be paused at any point while you decide how to proceed. You are never pressured toward a decision.
Collection advice for complete sets of watches
The storage and winding advice visit is not available at most repair workshops. It covers humidity, winder use, seal condition, and check intervals — leaving you with a written summary for each piece in your collection.
Honest description of alternative parts
When an original component is unavailable, we describe the substitute clearly — finish differences, fit tolerances, visual impact on the piece — and let you decide whether to proceed. The choice remains yours.
