Case study 01 · Complete overhaul
Situation
The client brought in a chronograph that had stopped and could not be wound. The case had minor scratches but was otherwise in good shape. The bracelet had been replaced at some point with an aftermarket unit.
What was done
Full strip-down revealed a broken mainspring and dried lubricant throughout. A new mainspring was sourced from a Japanese supplier — quoted separately, approved before ordering. The movement was cleaned ultrasonically, reassembled, and regulated. Chronograph function confirmed working across all positions.
Outcome
Returned in nine weeks — seven for the mainspring to arrive, two for the work. Running at approximately +8 seconds per day in normal wear position. Client received a full service record and a note that the crown seal should be checked in three to four years given the Malaysian climate.
Case study 02 · Bracelet restoration
Situation
The bracelet on a mid-1990s Seamaster had developed a noticeable pull to the left, making it uncomfortable to wear and visible on the wrist. Several pins had worn and one link was looser than the others.
What was done
All pins were examined; six were replaced with correct-specification Omega units sourced from an authorised parts supplier. The clasp was disassembled, cleaned in ultrasonic solution, and the push-button mechanism was freed. Bracelet realigned and checked for pull at each end.
Outcome
Returned in six days. Pull eliminated. The client opted not to have the clasp refinished — the wear marks were left as-is, which was their preference. Noted in the service record.
Case study 03 · Storage and winding advice
Situation
A client in Melaka had inherited eight watches from two different family members. She did not know their service history and was not sure which ones were worth keeping, which needed work, and how to store the ones she intended to wear occasionally.
What was done
All eight pieces were brought to a single appointment. Each was examined visually and wound where possible. Seal condition was assessed by eye on each case. Storage arrangement and current humidity level in her home were discussed.
Outcome
One piece showed clear signs of moisture ingress and was sent for service immediately. Two others were noted for service within twelve months. The remaining five were assessed as fine for now, with a suggested check interval of two to three years. Written summary provided for each piece.
